DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES
(Birth through 6th Grade)


Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required. Seminary degree or educational emphasis in childhood education and development preferred.
Salvation Experience: Gives testimony and bears evidence of a salvation experience and of genuine personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Full-time

Reports to: Pastor or Education Director (at discretion of Pastor).

Supervisory Responsibility: Responsible for enlisting and supervising department leaders in the Children’s Division for Sunday School and any other church functions and providing overall supervision of directors, teachers, childcare workers, and adult leaders of other children’s programs.

Function: To coordinate the programs and activities of the Children’s Division (Birth through 6th grade) and to stay spiritually sensitive to the Holy Spirit through prayer and Bible study in order to lead people by right example of life in the spirit and service to the Lord.

Responsibilities:

1. Direct a comprehensive Christian education program for children, including Sunday School, discipleship and mission programs. Attend leadership meetings of existing organizations and schedule combined leadership meetings to provide a coordinated program of children’s Christian education.

2. Attend weekly staff meetings and participate in church staff activities. Coordinate the work of the Children’s Ministry with all other church programs to create a network based on mutual support.

3. After each staff meeting, communicate in a timely manner to the Assistant Preschool Director that information necessary and helpful to her to fulfill her duties and responsibility.

4. Find, enlist, and train department leadership and/or workers for the Children’s Division for Sunday School and any other church functions.

5. Guide department directors though regularly scheduled meetings.

6. Determine the number of Sunday School departments needed in the Children’s Division.

7. Work with department directors to provide and conduct specialized training activities for workers in the Children’s Division.

8. Encourage and coordinate outreach and follow-up activities within the division and in conjunction with overall outreach opportunities of the church.

9. Give personal attention to counseling children who make decisions or who express a desire to make a decision to accept Christ as Savior.

10. Coordinate the purchase and use of literature, supplies and equipment needed within the division.

11. Coordinate the use of Children’s Division facilities for church activities such as socials, committee meetings, weekday activities and FLC activities.

12. Assign and oversee approved paid children’s workers according to church policy and/or applicable laws and regulations.

13. Develop Children’s Division budget requirements and recommendations for Financial Committee.

14. Establish and maintain good communication with parents and volunteers. Resolve problems which may occur in a professional and tactful manner with regard to the stated function of this position.

15. Coordinate and supervise the Children’s Ministry programs to include VBS, Upward, AWANA and children’s camps.

16. Continuously strive for the best procedures and methods through personal study and attendance at seminary classes or other clinics, conferences, and workshops. Introduce new and improved ideas to the supervisor.

17. Schedule and coordinate Baby/Child Dedication services with parents and church staff.

18. Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
